Australia’s #1 line-up of news and public affairs content will return to the Seven Network in 2022, with 7NEWS, Sunrise, Weekend Sunrise, The Morning Show, 7NEWS Spotlight, The Latest from 7NEWS and 7NEWS.com.au set to keep the nation informed and educated.

The most trusted evening news bulletin, 7NEWS, ranks #1 nationally this year with an average 1.65 million viewers nationally Monday to Friday, 1.38 million on Saturdays and 1.69 million on Sundays.

7NEWS dominates the Perth and Adelaide markets, while on the East Coast it has halved the gap on its main rival and recorded its highest audience share since the one-hour news bulletin started in 2014. In fact, 7NEWS Sydney and 7NEWS Melbourne have achieved their highest shares since 2010.

The Latest from 7NEWS with Michael Usher and Angela Cox has become essential late-night viewing for many Australians, winning its timeslot each weeknight. It returns in 2022.

7NEWS Spotlight had a remarkable 2021, delivering ground-breaking and high-rating reports including The Phenomenon, Craig McLachlan, Delta On Board, Martin Bryant’s Dark Secrets, Fight Of His Life, Saving Candice and Ride Of Your Life.

The Phenomenon drew almost 1.2 million viewers nationally, while the Craig McLachlan and Martin Bryant investigations were both watched by more than 1.1 million people.

The 7NEWS Spotlight specials dominated their timeslot. They will return in 2022 with more exclusive, ground-breaking and, at times, heart-wrenching investigations.

7NEWS Specials were another important part of Seven’s news line-up this year, including the news-breaking Ivan Milat: Buried Secrets and The Disappearance of William Tyrrell.

7NEWS.com.au continues to draw new, younger Australians to the 7NEWS brand and ranks as the #1 news website among people aged under 40.

Sunrise ruled breakfast television again in 2021, winning every week of the year and ranking #1 for the 18th consecutive year. Each weekday, Sunrise reaches 990,000 Australians, with an average national audience of 458,000, 40% more than its closest rival.

Sunrise will be back in 2022, with co-hosts David Koch and Natalie Barr, sports presenter Mark Beretta, newsreader Edwina Bartholomew, weatherman Sam Mac and Weekend Sunrise co-hosts Monique Wright and Matt Doran presenting all the latest news, sport and weather.

In the mornings, The Morning Show has been #1 for 14 years in a row. Co-hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies are the undisputed stars of daytime TV, and they will be back next year to keep Australia informed, entertained and inspired.

Australia’s biggest weekday news audience in a decade

7NEWS: #1 nationally in 2021

 

The Seven Network’s 7NEWS has cemented its position as the #1 news show in Australia after recording the nation’s biggest average Monday to Friday capital city news audience in over a decade.

 

Last week (26 to 30 July), an average of 2.06 million viewers nationally watched 7NEWS at 6pm, with 1.39 million viewers in the capital cities – the biggest audience since June 2011.

 

On Sunday 25 July, an average of 2.32 million viewers nationally and 1.56 million across the capital cities watched 7NEWS, making it biggest single news audience on any network since January 2017.

 

The recent high caps a strong year for 7NEWS, which has won every single week of the survey ratings year across the capital cities and nationally.

 

The nation’s favourite news program has also won every week this survey ratings year in Adelaide and Perth, and has won 12 of the 23 weeks so far in Melbourne.

 

7NEWS hit recent highs in Sydney and Melbourne on Sunday 25 July. Sydney recorded 430,000 viewers, the biggest news audience across free-to-air television since January 2017, and Melbourne recorded 516,000 viewers – the biggest television news audience since April 2019.

7NEWS’ recent highs and the success of Seven’s live, free and exclusive coverage of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 helped Seven Network achieve a 59.8% commercial share last week – its highest weekly share since the OzTAM audience measurement system started in 2001.

 

Seven has now won 17 weeks so far in the calendar year 2021 and has been #1 in 12 of the 23 weeks so far in the survey year 20201.

7NEWS.com.au – Australia’s #1 online news service for under 40s – has announced an all-new, Australian-first ‘made for mobile’ vertical format digital breakfast program, Happening Now, that launched 7am AEDT Monday.

Produced in 7NEWS.com.au’s custom-built digital studio at Channel 7’s studios in Martin Place, Happening Now will cover the biggest headlines of the day you need to know and must-watch video.

The snappy, convenient five-minute episodes will be available weekdays from 7am AEDT via your local 7NEWS Facebook and Instagram pages, the 7NEWS Australia YouTube channel and 7NEWS.com.au, purpose-produced in vertical format to be viewed on a smartphone device from anywhere – the train, bus, in your kitchen, on the treadmill or from bed.

The launch of Happening Now follows the success of 7NEWS.com.au’s The Latest on Facebook Watch, Australia’s #1 – and one of the world’s most-watched – digital news show having amassed a staggering 400 million views and counting.

7NEWS.com.au has cemented its position as the leading news website for Australians aged under 40, according to new data from Nielsen Digital Content Ratings (DCR).

The Nielsen DCR report for November shows 7NEWS.com.au was the #1 news website among hard-to-reach young Australians: it was #1 overall among women under 35 and the #1 commercial news website among men under 40. The website’s total unique audience in November was 9.52 million, up 14.2% on November last year.

The new numbers follow an outstanding year for the Seven Network’s news website, which has built an average daily unique audience of 1.29 million.

Across 2020, 7NEWS.com.au has seen an average of 69.7 million page views a month.

7NEWS.com.au is now Australia’s largest social news brand, reaching more than 13.2 million people or more than 50% of the population.

It is also home to Australia’s #1 digital news show, The Latest, which was racked up more than 400 million views since it launched in August 2019.

The success of The Latest has made 7NEWS.com.au one of the fastest-growing YouTube channels in Australia. The number of subscribers has jumped 244% over the past year, while the number of minutes watched has soared 1740%.

Exclusive reporting and content have been critical to 7NEWS.com.au’s rapid growth and early next year it will launch two new original shows:

Doing Life Differently With Ciaran Lyons, a made-for-mobile documentary series that explores Australia’s hidden worlds including swingers, furries and Satanists.

Happening Now, a daily made-for-mobile digital news show.
