Holey Moley Junior steps up to the tee

Holey Moley Junior, a Holey Moley competition event special showcasing Australia’s brightest golfing prodigies, will tee off 7.30pm Monday, 1 March on Channel 7.

Holey Moley Junior brings together eight of the country’s most talented junior mini golfers, ranging in age from eight to 10 years, to battle it out across three wild rounds.

While they show off their incredible skills on the most extreme mini golf course on the planet, these competitive kids are chasing the ultimate prize: the Holey Moley plaid jacket, golden putter, a whopping $10,000 golf shopping spree and being crowned the world’s first-ever Holey Moley Junior Champion.

How will these golfing stars of tomorrow deal with the death-defying Holey Moley obstacles? That’s where their parents step in. While the kids take the putts, their adult caddies will take the hits on diabolical course favourites, including Putter Ducky, Dutch Courage, Putt the Plank any many more.

With hours of daily training and prior wins in junior golf tournaments, it’s an even pack heading into the competition.

Standing by with words of Holey Moley wisdom for contestants and caddies will be host Sonia Kruger, Holey Moley Resident Golf Pro Greg Norman and commentators Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington.

Holey Moley is created and produced by Eureka Productions for the Seven Network.

Holey Moley tees off tonight at 7.30pm!
Epic obstacles Polcano, Dutch Courage and Uranus are set to test competitors.

Pro golfer Montana Strauss, Australia’s #1 mini golfer, Collette Norton, and former pro golfer, James Carr, take to the Holey Moley green in tonight’s premiere episode.

Their agility, speed and putting prowess will be put to the test battling monster mini golf holes including Polcano, Dutch Courage, Uranus and Putt the Plank, featuring Australia’s favourite pirate, “Dead Eye” Dicko.

Don’t be fooled. The course may be kooky, but the competition is deadly serious. “Competitors are continually trying to psych each other out and there are all sorts of mind games being played,” said host Sonia Kruger, who believes courage, skill and perseverance is the winning mix for Holey Moley success. “You have to play the long game in Holey Moley to win the short game.”

In the first round of each episode, eight players compete in a series of head-to-head matchups. Only the four winners go through to the second round to battle it out.

Those who are victorious head straight to the final hole. The remaining two compete in the Distractor Duel for the last spot in the final three-way battle.

The ultimate winner of each episode takes home the prestigious plaid jacket, the golden putter and books a spot in the Grand Final, where they will compete for the chance to win $100,000 on the daunting last hole, the top-secret Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee.

Holey Moley stars Greg Norman, Sonia Kruger, Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington.

Holey Moley premieres Monday 7.30pm Feb 1 on Channel 7 and streaming on 7plus.

Holey Moley. Only one week to go!

The road to mini golf glory starts Monday 7.30pm Feb 1 on Channel 7 and streaming on 7plus.

Putter up! Meet the Holey Moley competitors. Sharing a passion for the game, precision putting skills and dreams of Holey Moley glory, these brave contenders will battle each other and the fierce Holey Moley course when the coveted competition tees off 7.30pm Monday, 1 February.

When it comes to success on the challenging course, Holey Moley co-commentator, Rob Riggle, believes the obstacles diminish any advantage professionals have over amateur golfers. ”Professionals may have more experience with putting, but there are so many obstacles to overcome that putting is only one part of the equation.”

Will strategy outplay strength? Can beginner’s luck conquer experience? Will fear foil a near victory? The Holey Moley obstacles will decide.

In the first round of each episode, eight players compete in a series of head-to-head matchups. Only the four winners go through to the second round to battle it out.

Those who are victorious head straight to the final hole. The remaining two compete in the Distractor Duel for the last spot in the final three-way battle.

Inside the mind of the Holey Moley Creator

By SEVEN

Inside Seven takes you deep into the marvellously bonkers world of Holey Moley in this exclusive interview with show creator and EP, Chris Culvenor.

We’ve seen the promos. There’s windmills, two-story tall rubber duckies and giant hot dogs. Is this the most colourful and unique show you’ve ever produced?!

Holey Moley is unlike any show out there. It’s the most extreme Mini Golf course ever created, where the most passionate putters on the planet face-off in hilarious and high-stake battles. In a landscape filled with many similar shows, Holey Moley’s ridiculous and Willy Wonka-esq world really stands out from the pack.

But it’s more than just the spectacle. What else is in the DNA of this show?

The show is more than just hilarious hits and wild wipeouts. Firstly, the skill level of these world-class mini golfers will blow you away! Everyone on the course is there to win and the audience will witness some absolutely incredible putts. The other important element is comedy. Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington’s commentary can’t be missed and their back-and-forth with our host Sonia Kruger is very very funny.

It sounds like this show is close to your heart. Tell us why you love it so much?

When I created this show, I wanted to tap into the huge joy and nostalgia that comes from mini golf. Everyone has such fond memories of playing, whether on a family holiday, a first date or just playing with your mates. This show takes that cherished childhood memory and super-sizes to an extreme level!

When we sold it to ABC in the States, it became the number one show of the American Summer and achieved even bigger results in Season 2. The smash hit success in the USA has lead to the format selling around the world – but as an Australian, it’s EXTRA special for me to bring the show home to Australia and launch it on Seven.

There’s some pretty significant talent on the show – Greg Norman, Rob Riggle, Sonia Kruger, Matt Shirvington. Tell us about some of the fun you guys had on set.

Rob Riggle was a huge part of the show’s success in the USA so it was a huge coup for Seven to secure him for the Aussie version. He instantly hit it off with Matt Shirvington and what you’ll witness over the series is a hilarious buddy bromance as they commentate the action.

Sonia is the perfect compliment to Rob and Shervo, she’s got an incredible combination of quick wit and the ability to emotionally connect with our contestants as she chats to them on the course.

Greg Norman was a huge fan of the US series so when he heard we were producing an Aussie version he jumped right in, embracing the ridiculousness. He’s obviously one of the greatest golfers in history, but what the audience will witness is he’s also got a fantastic sense of humour and is happy to take the piss.

The show was first commissioned in America with Steph Curry NBA Super Shooter as EP and Resident Golf Pro – how did that come about?

After we sold the series to ABC, we wanted to find a superstar celebrity to attach as both EP and the Resident Golf Pro.  Steph is an absolutely obsessive golfer and when we first met about the project he immediately got it, and actually started pitching us new hole ideas! He told me he now gets stopped in the street with people wanting to ask him about Holey Moley, which as three time NBA champion is pretty hilarious.

Pulling off a show of this scale and spectacle must have been a challenge like no other. Tell us about an aspect that the audience would NEVER EXPECT took so much time, energy or effort.

The speed of the giant windmills, the bounce of the huge rubber duckies and the rings of Uranus are all tested by a crack team of crash-test-putters. These heroes of the green test every bump, thump and wipeout so that Holey Moley can be the most epic and extreme course in the world!

The Holey Moley art team is also the best in the world. They have been able to achieve incredible scale and combine it with fun whimsical details. When viewers watch the contestants being smashed by the giant windmills, watch for the field of foam tulips that catch their fall… then think of the art team that put each one of them together!

COVID meant you had to do a quick pivot from shooting on the existing set in LA, to building a replica in Australia. How did you make it work for the show and what has this year taught you or changed in the way you work?

We were shooting the Aussie version on the US set when COVID hit and shutdown the production. It sounds cheesy but it was that classic Aussie “can do” spirit that enabled us to achieve the impossible and rebuild this massive set in Queensland. The amazing team were not only able to replicate the incredible US set, but also improved on it and gave it a few Aussie tweaks. The result is a show that feels as epic as the US show, but also feels distinctly Australian.

What do you hope this show will provide to Aussies in Q1 this year?

The show is a beacon of ridiculous family fun and after a tough twelve months, I hope Holey Moley will provide audiences with some much need laughs! When the US version launched, America became mini golf obsessed, so we’re hoping Australia gets in on the fun too!

Chris Culvenor is the co-founder of Eureka Productions and among the world’s most successful and prolific TV program creators and producers responsible for a long list of hit TV franchises both in the US and Australia. Shows that Culvenor has created include Holey Moley (ABC, Seven), Dating Around (Netflix), Fake Off (TruTV) The Big Deal (TNT), Billion Dollar Buyer (CNBC), Restaurant Startup (CNBC), Going Wild (NatGeo), The Chefs’ Line (SBS), The Shire (TEN), and WAG Nation (Arena).

Mini golf and massive fun par for the course

They will come from across Australia to take on the most epic obstacle mini golf course ever created, but only a new breed of contender will survive this competition.

The country’s most skilled and passionate golfers will battle for supremacy on insane, supersized mini golf holes.

Towering windmills, fire-breathing dragons, shark-infested lagoons and a giant sausage – it’s the course that has everything. No inch of astroturf has been left unturned in creating this unmatched test of precision putting and stamina.

Holey Moley stars Greg Norman, Sonia Kruger, Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington.

I’ve played the world’s greatest golf courses – St Andrews, Augusta – but they’re nothing compared to this. Being named Holey Moley’s Resident Pro is without a doubt the biggest moment of my career.

Hosts announced to join Greg Norman and Rob Riggle on the HOLEY MOLEY fairway

By SEVEN

New series premieres Monday, October 19 on Channel 7

Greg Norman and Rob Riggle joined by Sonia Kruger and Matt Shirvington on the HOLEY MOLEY fairway

Seven Network today announced popular presenter Sonia Kruger and 7NEWS sports anchor Matt Shirvington will join legendary golfer Greg Norman and American actor/comedian Rob Riggle on the upcoming extreme mini golf competition series, Holey Moley.

Sonia will host the show set to premiere on Channel 7 in 2021, with Matt sharing commentating honours with Rob (Saturday Night Live,The Hangover, Step Brothers, The Other Guy), who is fresh from the smash hit second season of US Holey Moley

The trio will feature with one of the world’s most successful golfers, Australian sporting great Greg Norman, who will serve as the Resident Golf Pro of the epic Holey Moley course.

Excitedly taking her first steps into the high stakes world of mini golf, Sonia says:

Holey Moley is refreshingly new, utterly unique and completely bonkers, which I’m pretty sure is why they thought I’d be a natural fit.

It’s a total thrill to be working with the god of golf himself, the one and only Great White Shark, Greg Norman. Plus, I get to work with international comedy megastar Rob Riggle and Aussie sporting champion Matt Shirvington, or Shirvo and Riggle as I like to call them, which I’ll probably just shorten to ‘Shiggle’ for economy of words.

Sonia Kruger

No stranger to a spiked sports shoe, former athletics star Matt is pumped to hit the course.

Holey Moley is such an insane concept. Sport meets entertainment on a mind-blowing scale

I’m really looking forward to sharing the desk with Rob. I’m a huge fan of his work, he’s hilarious. Getting the chance to work with Sonia again on such a mad show is amazing, she’s such great fun. And of course, The Shark; few Australians have dominated their sport to the degree Greg Norman has – he’s one of the true Aussie legends, an absolute powerhouse.

Matt Shirvington

Angus Ross, Seven’s Director of Network Programming says the all-star hosting and commentary line-up further bolsters the family entertainment appeal of the program.

Holey Moley is serious family fun. From the sensational course you must see to believe, to the brilliant comedy and the make or break putts, this series will deliver unpredictable entertainment. Audiences can expect the unexpected on the Holey Moley course.

Angus Ross

Holey Moley sees mini golf lovers from around Australia competing head-to-head on the unparalleled, larger-than-life obstacle mini golf course. They’ll face out-of-this-world putting and physical challenges while they attempt to complete the course and reach the daunting final hole.

Each episode, one winner will take home the “Golden Putter” trophy and coveted Holey Moley plaid jacket. Then, in the Grand Final, the winners from every episode will face off for the chance to take home the $100,000 grand prize. It all comes down to one putt!

Holey Moley begins production in Brisbane today. The series is created by Eureka Productions and produced by Eureka Productions for Channel 7.
