11.72 million salute Aussie victory on Seven

Australia got behind Pat Cummins’ triumphant Test team this summer, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage of the 2021-22 Australia-England Ashes series reaching 11.72 million people nationally and an average peak of 1.47 million each day.

The Aussies capped off a dominant 4-0 series victory when they obliterated England’s fragile batting line-up in an exhilarating day three of the fifth Test in Hobart yesterday, with Seven’s coverage of the Fifth Test reaching 6.9 million Australians and peaking at 1.58 million.

Seven’s day three coverage reached 4.8 million viewers nationally and peaked at 1.7 million people. The second session had 1.28 million viewers nationally, while 1.2 million tuned in for the third session and 1.17 million for the first session. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.

Seven delivered 77% of the Ashes broadcast audience across the five-Test series, while the national audience was up 2% on the 2017-18 series between Australia and England on home soil.

There is still plenty to look forward to in Seven’s Summer of Cricket. Australia’s world-beating women’s team squares off against traditional rivals England in the Women’s Ashes series starting this Thursday, 20 January.

And all the explosive action of the Big Bash League continues in the lead-up to the five-game finals series that kicks off on Friday, 21 January.

Seven strikes NFL rights deal until 2024

The Seven Network today announced it has secured the rights as the exclusive Australian free-to-air television broadcaster of the National Football League (NFL) for another three years.

Seven’s highly successful partnership with the NFL started in 2014. Under the new deal, the network’s live and free coverage will continue across the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Seven’s broadcast of the NFL on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus will deliver 50 live NFL games each season including weekly Sunday afternoon games in season (broadcast Monday mornings in Australia), plus all the action from the Playoff and Pro Bowl games and one of the biggest sporting events in the world – the Super Bowl.

Australian fans will also have access to exclusive on-demand shows, replays, highlights and bonus content on 7plus, including the weekly live post-match analysis show, NFL Armchair Experts, hosted by Ben Graham, the first Australian to play in a Super Bowl.

Seven’s coverage of the NFL continues to win fans, with the 2021 NFL Super Bowl capital city television audience up 21% in people 25 to 54 and up 5% in total people on 2020. On 7plus, Seven’s Super Bowl broadcast surged even higher year-on-year, up 40% in total people in 2021 verses 2020.

Magic Millions to dazzle on Seven

Live and free this Saturday from the Gold Coast

Australia’s glittering Magic Millions Raceday takes centre stage on the Seven Network this Saturday, when fans will enjoy Summer Racing’s biggest day, with all the live and free thoroughbred racing action and trackside colour from the picturesque Gold Coast Turf Club.

One of the strongest fields ever assembled will contest the jewel in the crown, the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), with the Ciaron Maher trained and aptly-named filly Coolangatta the unbeaten favourite.

Saturday’s live coverage begins at 1.00pm AEDT on 7two and 7plus and will be anchored by Australia’s pre-eminent sport broadcaster Bruce McAvaney.

Bruce will be joined by Seven’s unbeatable commentary team led by Hamish McLachlan from the Gold Coast including Katelyn Mallyon, Emma Freedman and Lizzie Jelfs, while Kate Waterhouse will cover all the trackside fashion and fun from the dazzling event.

Having cemented its reputation on the international racing scene as a must-attend event for racing’s elite, punters and fashionistas alike, the $2 million Classic is the highlight of Magic Millions Raceday, a $10.5 million, nine-race program that includes seven races worth over $1 million each.

Another key feature is the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) for three-year-olds. Jamaea will start as one of the favourites in the event, with the star filly’s main competition expected to come from King of Sparta and Starman.

Magic Millions Raceday is just the beginning. Fans can strap themselves in for an epic weekend of sport on Seven, featuring the fifth Ashes Test, Big Bash League, AFLW and the NFL Wild Card round.

It is all set to kick off today with the Fifth Test in Hobart between Australia and England from 2.00pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7mate.

Australia turns up the heat

Seven’s Adelaide Test day one reaches 4.03 million

Australians flocked to the Seven Network yesterday for day one of the Second Test, with the live and free coverage reaching 4.03 million people and peaking at 1.43 million.

With the Aussies well on top by stumps with 2-221 following gutsy performances at the crease by David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne, Seven recorded an average audience of 1.15 million viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session and 787,000 in the capital cities.

The second session had 858,000 viewers nationally and 583,000 in the capital cities, while 650,000 viewers nationally tuned in for the first session and 426,000 in the capital cities. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people. Seven delivered 75% of the Ashes broadcast audience across the capital cities and regional markets on a frustrating first day for the Poms, with Seven recording a capital-city share of 48.3% in total people and 46.4% in 25 to 54s from 6pm to midnight.

Seven extends partnership with World Surf League

Ride the wave on the Seven Network, with Seven extending its partnership as the free-to-air broadcaster of the World Surf League (WSL) to cover surfing’s biggest and most iconic events.

Australia’s emphatic victory over England in the first Ashes showdown was box-office viewing, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage of the four days’ play at the Gabba reaching 5.56 million people and peaking at 1.1 million.

As England’s hopes were dashed by Australia’s bowling prowess in a series of quick wickets early on day four, Seven’s coverage reached 3.3 million Australians nationally and peaked at 1.17 million.

The first session yesterday had 716,000 viewers nationally and 487,000 in the capital cities, while 600,000 viewers nationally tuned in for the second session and 402,000 in the capital cities. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.

The Seven Network delivered 78% of the Ashes broadcast audience on Saturday across the capital cities and regional as Australia toppled England by nine wickets to lead 1-0 in the five-match series, with Channel 7 up 154% year-on-year in total people and up 237% in 25 to 54s during day time.

Aussies put Poms on the ropes on Seven

Gabba Test day two reaches 2.82 million

Man of the moment Travis Head scored his first Ashes century on day two of the First Test at the Gabba yesterday to put Australia on the path to victory with a commanding 196-run lead, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage reaching 2.82 million people and session three peaking at 1.36 million.

As the home team dominated at the crease to finish day two with a first innings total of 7/343, the third session delivered 954,000 viewers nationally and 639,000 in the capital cities.

The second session had 695,000 viewers nationally and 463,000 in the capital cities, while 556,000 viewers nationally tuned in for the first session and 369,000 in the capitals. All sessions dominated their timeslots ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.

The Seven Network delivered 77% of the Ashes broadcast audience on Thursday across the capital cities and regional, with Channel 7 up 147% year-on-year in total people and up 173% in 25 to 54s during day time.

Test summer off to a dream start on Seven

Day one of First Test reaches 2.87 million

The highly-anticipated battle for the Ashes exploded into life at the Gabba yesterday, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage reaching 2.87 million people and peaking at 1.74 million.

On an historic opening day when aggressive spells led by Aussie quicks Patrick Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood reduced England to their lowest Test score (147) on day one of an Ashes series for 63 years, the second session delivered 686,000 viewers nationally and 459,000 in the capital cities.

The first session had 586,000 viewers nationally and 386,000 in the capital cities. All sessions dominated their timeslots ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.

The Seven Network delivered 75% of the Ashes broadcast audience on Wednesday across the capital cities, with Channel 7 up 98% year-on-year in total people during day time.

Bathurst 1000 roars to 1.28 million viewers

Reaches 4.1 million, audience jumps on 2020

The Seven Network’s coverage of the Repco Bathurst 1000 from Mount Panorama was a hit with television audiences yesterday, as over 4.1 million viewers tuned into the turbo-charged action on Channel 7 and 7mate.

Seven’s live and free coverage of the high-octane race averaged 1.28 million total viewers nationally, as Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth became the new Kings of the Mountain in their first drive together. It was the 35th win at Bathurst for Holden and the first for Walkinshaw Andretti United in its current guise.

The unforgettable action reached new heights in 2021, with the Race average broadcast audience up 11.2% across the capital cities on Network 10’s coverage in 2020, and the Podium up 24.1% on last year.

More than three-quarters of the people who watched the race on television watched it on Seven, while more than 18.6 million minutes were streamed on 7plus, which grabbed a 64% share of live streaming yesterday.
