Recently appointed as NSW Sales Director, Georgie Nichols shares the biggest benefit for clients incorporating regional markets in their media buy and the content she is most excited to watch on Seven in 2022!
Q1. Congratulations on your recent appointment as NSW Sales Director! Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got to where you are now.
I have worked in media and marketing roles both here and in London for over 20 years now. I have spent most of my career in media agencies but also worked for 6 years at Telstra where I set up their media department from scratch and proud to see it still going strong 12 years after I left to have baby #2! Coming to Seven was my first role on the Publisher side and I have loved the opportunity to now experience every side of the media and marketing ecosystem and to work with some truly inspiring leaders.
Q2. In addition to the metro market, you’ve recently acquired regional markets in your remit with the acquisition of Prime. What do you believe is the biggest benefit to clients?
36% of Australians live in regional areas yet so many brands are not capitalising on their ability to reach 9.1m potential regional customers – focusing only on capital city markets. Having worked on all sides of the media fence, I know for clients and agencies, being able to have one conversation about how they can reach their target audience nationally and to seamlessly implement and optimise their strategies through one place, will be a game changer for our partners.
Q3. What content coming to Seven are you most excited about in 2022?
There is so much great content coming so hard to choose but my girls are massive Big Brother fans and we are all looking forward to the upcoming season and celebrating Big Brother’s 21st Birthday! I am also really looking forward to seeing Australian Idol come to life across the screens of Seven. I sponsored the first three seasons of Australian Idol when I was a client at Telstra and it was one of our most successful partnerships with brand and preference scores lifting significantly across the three seasons, so I can’t wait to open up the power of Idol to many of our partners – and to watch it with the kids! Also, I’m very excited for the Commonwealth Games in less than 80 days!
Q4. Outside of work, what keeps you busy, healthy and entertained?
My family keeps me VERY busy. I have 12 and 14 year-old daughters who are very into sport so my weekends are spent driving all over Sydney to watch them surf, swim, play waterpolo or AFL. I am also lucky enough to have a big extended family and lots of great friends who I love to catch up with across the weekends. Fitness wise I love pilates, yoga and there is nothing like swimming in the ocean.
Q5. Finally, what advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
Don’t be afraid to take risks, back yourself, lead by example and be kind.
